Franz Marhold

Franz Marhold

After the habilitation in 1984 at the University of Vienna, Faculty of Law, in 1988 Franz Marhold was appointed Associate Professor for Labour and Social Law at this Faculty. Between 1990 and 1996 he became Full Professor for Civil Law and related fields at the University of Konstanz. From 1996 until 2012, he was Full Professor for Labour Law and Social Security Law at the Karl-Franzens-University, Graz. From 1999 until 2004, he has also been Dean of Studies at that University. In 2012 Franz Marhold became Full Professor for Austrian and European Labour Law and Social Security Law at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. Between 01.01.2016 – 31.12.2019 he was Head of the Department of Business, Employment and Social Security Law.

Professor Marhold is author of various publications for example “Österreichisches Arbeitsrecht” (together with Friedrich), “Europäisches Arbeitsrecht” (together with Fuchs) or legal commentaries as “Kommentar zum Angestelltengesetz”. He is member of the scientific advisory board of the Max Planck Institute for Social Law and Social Politics in Munich, editor of the Journal “ASoK” and member of the editorial board of ZIAS and ZESAR. Since 2014 he is president of the European Institute of Social Security, EISS, at Leuven. He was also partner and managing director of the Herbst & Kinsky Rechtsanwälte GmbH. Since 2018 he is also Vice President of the Austrian Society for Labour Law and Social Security Law.
